Refrax
A game inspired by the pause mode of Jeff Minter's Iridis Alpha.
A game for one to four players, inspired by the mini-game hidden in the pause mode of Jeff Minter’s Iridis Alpha on the Commodore 64.
The evil Dr. Nasty has scattered orbs across each level, and you defuse them by steering four light beams into them. You steer by dropping \ and / mirrors in front of a beam, and each beam has its own pair of keys. Four players can take a beam each, or one dexterous player can control all four. It’s co-operative, because the level has to be cleared before the orbs doom the universe, and competitive too, because each beam’s score races the others along the bottom of the screen.
I wrote it with Philip Dunstan. The soundtrack is four Amiga modules by Moby from the old demo scene. It was released in 2003.
